Work in progress. This page is a first draft waiting on Cody's pass.

Why Quest & Query exists

Good software starts before any code. It starts with how a business runs, where the time goes, and what would make the week easier. Quest & Query exists to do that thinking carefully, build what is needed, and keep it running for years after launch.

The work is taken on deliberately. Fewer projects, done properly, at a pace that leaves room to get them right.

How the work is done

  • Written down first

Every build starts with a scope you can read and approve. Nothing starts on a handshake.

  • No surprises

If a cost, a delay or a risk shows up, you hear about it before it matters.

  • Built to be handed on

Clear code and plain documentation, so the next developer can pick it up.

  • Close to home

Based in Pemberton and working across the Sea to Sky, with clients further afield by video call.

Who runs it

Cody Nicoll

Cody Nicoll runs Quest & Query from Pemberton, BC. He has been building software since 2005: contest platforms for Honda Canada and the Vancouver Giants, the web teams behind EA.com and EA Sports game launches at Electronic Arts, and seven years at a design agency building platforms for clients across North America. More than forty shipped projects across web, mobile, data and AI.

Today the work centres on AI agent systems, custom platforms, and the integrations that tie a business's tools together. He likes the part before any code exists best: working out what the system should be.

Outside work he is usually on a trail: hiking, mountain biking in Pemberton, Whistler and Squamish, and skiing all winter. The rest of the time there is a fantasy or science fiction novel on the go.

Emma

Emma handles site visits, morale and perimeter security. She sits in on most calls, usually from under the desk, and has never once missed a walk. A goldendoodle with more miles than most, she has explored much of BC, crossed several mountain peaks, and been as far north as the Arctic Ocean.
